Independent Tribune – Stonewall of Silence

The deadline for submitting my county commission candidate profile was October 15th. The IT has yet to publish our candidate profiles yet early voting started back on October 17th.

I sent an email to the reporter who sent me the profile for me to answer. This reporter has always been courteous and prompt in our email exchanges. I have nothing personal to hold against this reporter. The buck stops on the editor’s desk, the same editor who has ignored me and my family for the past 495 days.

Below is the email I sent to the reporter yesterday. I have yet to hear back from them.

I edited out the personal greeting I gave to the reporter to protect her identity…

I was just wondering when the county commission profiles will be published?

Over 10,000 votes have been cast so far. It would have been nice to have some of them see our profiles first.

I totally understand. The editor runs the show. I understand elections have consequences. I understand the cozy relationship Mark has with the incumbents. I am not as dumb as I look. Despite being nothing but respectful to Mark, he obviously despises me and cares very little about my father, who I brought by Mark’s office 494 days ago about a story concerning developers cheating my family. I laid a gift in his lap. What “journalist” would pass up a chance to shine a light on out of state multi-millionaire developers cheating a Korean War Navy Veteran and his disabled wife? I have never been so disappointed in someone than I have with Mark.

Look, I am sorry I have to bring this up. You are just trying to do your job. My family and I have been treated poorly by Independent Tribune. I am not crying about it. It merely motivates me to be a better candidate and more importantly a better man.

Unfortunately, your boss has no backbone. Of course, he doesn’t need one. Mark is so popular he could win any office in this county heads down. He is a master of fluff. Bake sales. Beauty pageants and high school football are great but where is any commitment to investigative journalism? If Mark won’t bite on my parent’s open and shut case, how can the community trust your paper to go after any local corruption involving big business or government officials?

I won’t bring this up to you again. I understand the hill I am climbing. It is my family against the rich, politically connected and the media.

It is a sad state of affairs but the fact is, the world stands against my family.

I am not backing down. Regardless of this election, I am not going away. So grab some popcorn and prepare to be amazed. ;^)

Peace,

Thomas Hill

What are the editor and his staff afraid of?

I have treated them with dignity and respect, despite the lack of reciprocation coming from them…

The Independent Tribune reporter answered my email this morning. Here is her reasoning in the delay…”I have collected all of the questionnaires from the commissioner candidates- except Amos who I have tried to get in touch with several times and he hasn’t responded- so I hope they are going to run soon!” – My response was, Wow. I can only wonder if I was the one being rude to ignore you and the deadline, would I be extended the same grace. Does anyone believe that I, an outspoken critic of the Independent Tribune, would have received the same level of grace?
